KEWOPA CHAIRPERSON STATEMENT OF GENDER BASED VIOLENCE OF MADAM MUTHEU

KENYA WOMEN PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION STATEMENT ON THE HEINOUS ACT OF GENDER BASED VIOLENCE TOWARDS HON. PARTRICIAH MUTHEU MCA, MLANGO KUBWA WARD, NAIROBI, KENYA.

The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association- KEWOPA, joins key stakeholdersand society at latge to condmn Gender Based Violence against women and girls in public and privatespheres amid the Covid-19 crisis.

KEWOPA strongly Condemns the recent incident of violence against Hon. Partriciah Mutheu, MCA of Mlango Kubwa ward and other female MCAs who were attacked by police officers at their plac of work-Nairobi County Hall. The female Lege Legislators were mishandled, assaulted and beaten wiyhin the precincts of the Nairobi County Assembly. We also Condemn the recent gender-based viol ence against female MCAs in Kisii County.

We condemn these assaults in the strongest terms possible. What Happened to making arrests and rightful prosecutions? No matter what Hon. mutheu and the other MCA’s did, such kind of brutality and barbarism is unwarranted. Such kind of “officers” should be the ones being prosecuted an important deterrent that must be reinforced. It is quite wanting that 10years after the promulgation of our constitution, the police do not understand their mandate and still act as a police force instead of being a police service.

KEWOPA Urges all stakeholders to strengthen efforts towards the prevention of violence and strengthen the protection of women and girls in accordance with The Protection Against Domestic Violence Act, 2015 and related policies.

This is sickening, nauseating and stomach- churning!

Quick Recovery to Mlango Kubwa MCA Hon. Patriciah Mutheu Musyimi.

Hon. Purity Wangui Ngirici.

Chairperson- KENYA WOMEN PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION.
